I had the strangest taxi ride ever last Saturday night. I hardly got a cab on that rainy night. I had left the house in such a rush; holding the umbrella over myself, grabbing the keys and waiting for a text from my best friend - Allen, who needed me at that moment badly...
I felt really weird all that day. It had been raining for about four hours. The road seemed to disappear under the rainwater. The downpour had already caused many accidents. The traffic jam too was quite intense. But these factors were not bothering me as such because i had to reach at any cost. I kept on checking the weather update on my cell phone and it kept on disappointing me. The rain was predicted to fall for the next twelve hours stubbornly.
I grew uncomfortable as i could not find a shortcut to get out from that traffic jam. Plus, the silence in the cab made me even more impatient. No greeting, no direction... to break the awkward silence, i asked the taxi driver for a shortcut to my destination. He did not answer. Even for the third time, when i asked him, he protected his silent mode. This left me apprehensive. It was an awful situation. Allen had been waiting for me. Oh, how much pain she must have had been in after the sudden death of her parents in a car accident!
It had started to get dark outside. This made the strange taxi ride even more spine-chilling. His silence was disturbing. The cab driver. He made me uncomfortable with his dead existence. I shouted for him to answer me back for at least ten minutes after the traffic had resumed when finally with a hollow expression in his voice, he said shortly that he had taken some other route. 'Stop the car, man!!' I screamed and pleaded but he kept on driving like a machine.
I tried my doors and windows but they were certainly locked. Suddenly, with an abrupt pause, the car stopped. He looked back in my eyes. His face was burnt. Nothing scarier i had witnessed in my life before. I did not know what he wanted. He unbuckled the seat belt, got out of the car and opened the back door. Trembling with fear, i crept out of the box and met his fixed eyes horribly glaring at me. I was all wet in the deadly rain. Not even a single person, no sign board to be seen. Nothing familiar i could find. 'Where am i?' He turned away his gaze. Laughed wildly at me and walked away statically in the dark. I could not make sense out of it. Scared, unsafe, trembling, i hunted for a safe shelter or a sign... What did he want? Why did he left me there? What could have happened?
